Guidelines for authors
1. Focus and Scope
The Dominican Journal of Gastroenterology is an open-access biomedical scientific journal dedicated to the dissemination of original research, reviews, clinical case reports, and other relevant articles in clinical, endoscopic, and surgical gastroenterology, hepatology, coloproctology, digestive nutrition, diseases of the digestive system, and related fields.
Manuscripts are accepted in Spanish and English. The journal adopts as its editorial framework the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE); therefore, authors are encouraged to consult and strictly comply with these guidelines.
2. Types of Manuscripts
The following types of articles are accepted:
- Original Articles: Clinical, epidemiological, endoscopic, surgical, or translational research with rigorous methodology and appropriate statistical analysis.
- Clinical Case Reports: Case reports of clinical, endoscopic, or surgical interest with diagnostic, therapeutic, or educational value.
- Reviews: Narrative or systematic reviews on relevant topics in gastroenterology and related areas.
- Letters to the Editor: Comments on published articles or brief communications of clinical or methodological observations of interest.
- Images in Gastroenterology: Clinical, endoscopic, radiological, histopathological, or laboratory images with a brief description and educational value. They must be unpublished.
3. Manuscript Preparation
3.1. General Structure
All manuscripts must be submitted in Word format (.docx), with 1.5 line spacing, Times New Roman font, size 12, and 2.5 cm margins.
3.2. Manuscript Sections
3.2.1. Title Page
- Title in Spanish and English.
- Full names of the authors, affiliations, country, email address, and ORCID number.
- Correspondence: Name, address, email address, and contact number of the corresponding author.
3.2.2. Abstract and Keywords
- Structured abstract in Spanish and English (maximum 250 words): Introduction, Methods, Results, and Conclusion.
- Three to five keywords in both languages, according to MeSH or DeCS.
3.2.3. Manuscript Body
Original Articles (maximum 2,500 words):
- Title
- Abstract and keywords (Spanish and English)
- Introduction
- Materials and Methods
- Results
- Discussion
- Conclusions
- References
Clinical Case Reports (maximum 1,500 words):
- Title
- Abstract and keywords (Spanish and English)

Reviews (maximum 3,000 words):

- Materials and Methods (for systematic reviews)

Letters to the Editor (maximum 800 words):
- Title
- Text in short paragraphs, without abstract or subheadings
- Maximum of one table or figure
- Reference
Images in Gastroenterology (maximum 250 words):
- Title
- Explanation of the image and its clinical relevance
- Diagnosis
3.2.4. Figures, Tables, and Images

- JPEG format with a minimum resolution of 400 dpi.
- Images must be of high quality, without modifications that alter their authenticity.
3.2.5. References
- Structured according to ICMJE guidelines.
- Maximum of 30 references (except for reviews).
- Recommended use of reference managers such as Mendeley, EndNote, or Zotero.
4. Ethical Standards and Conflict of Interest
- Approval by an ethics committee and compliance with the Declaration of Helsinki.
- Declaration of conflicts of interest.
- Letter of originality and transfer of rights.
- Informed consent for the use of images.
5. Review and Publication Process
- Double-blind peer review.
- Estimated response time: 4 to 8 weeks.
- Deadline of 15 days to submit revisions.
6. Manuscript Submission
Manuscripts must be submitted through the OPEN JOURNAL SYSTEM platform, accompanied by:
FILE 1: Cover letter signed by all authors, including:
- Full name
- Institution
- Country
- ORCID
Authors must declare that the work is original, has not been previously published, has been read by all authors, and that there are no conflicts of interest. For research involving human or animal subjects, approval from the corresponding ethics committee must be attached.
FILE 2: Complete manuscript without author information, to ensure a blinded review process.
